The Great Big Green Week

Saturday 24th September 2022 | 11am - 3pm | POSTPONED

We would love for the town to join us in celebrating The Great Big Green Week 2022. In partnership with Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, we’ll be hosting a Green Hartlepool event to mark the occasion.

If you are in anyway involved in making Hartlepool a more environmentally friendly town, then we would love you to showcase at the event. We are welcoming businesses, groups and individuals to get involved. Contact us below for enquires and more information.

We will welcome the general public to enjoy the showcase starting at 11am on Saturday 24th September!

We believe that there is an enormous amount of work and passion in Hartlepool for the climate action, waste reduction and sustainability agendas. We have many individuals, groups and businesses focused on this.

In 2021 Julie Harrison became a Love Hartlepool Leader, joining us and being determined to put Hartlepool on the map as a beacon for this agenda, demonstrating just how much one town can do. As such our Green Heart of Hartlepool work programme was born. Julie is a longstanding climate activist, an entrepreneur, business owner and STEM educator. She is leading our work in this area and in November of 2021 the LH Leaders Group agreed the ‘Green Heart’ as one of four priority areas for the coming year.

Our overarching aspirations for this work across the town and wider borough are:

Objectives for 2022

Meet the team

Julie Harrison – Director at ‘Climate Action North and Director/Founder of ‘Inspiron Learning CIC

I am so pleased to be part of the Green Heart of Hartlepool. Taking inspiration from the local groups and businesses already doing their part to tackle climate change I am excited to be part of a team bringing all of this together and looking ahead to collaborate and coordinate on future projects. I am passionate about a green economy and the benefits it will bring to our health and wealth of Hartlepool, the region and our planet.

Lesley Mulcahy – Local business owner of The Simple Weigh

My shop is focused on helping people reduce waste, only purchase what they need, save money and take small but important steps to save our planet, and to buy beautiful lifestyle products! I am on a mission to support local makers and producers and stock the shop with local products which reduces the miles products travel to get into our hands. I have made one principle of the business that we reduce our waste and recycle and we are pretty chuffed with our results! Prior to following my dream for The Simple Weigh, I was a University Senior Lecturer at the University of Teesside and for a time Director of the MBA programme. Climate action is my passion and I am delighted to be part of the leadership team developing this coalition of green hearts across Hartlepool.

Sean Burleigh – Field Organiser for Aid Alliance

As part of my role I work on enhancing levels of support and education for UK International Aid and Climate Action across the North East. My two passions in life are sport and the environment.
